Paddle Paddle After Gobble Gobble!

posted by FH2o

After 5 days in a row of Christmas party dinners; some form of physical exercise would be in order – so I decided to organize a kayak trip to Rambungan on Boxing Day. I had also promised to take the ‘super-nagging-machine no.2’, a.k.a. Robin to go kayaking; killing two birds with one stone so to speak!

It was a glorious morning as the four of us launched our kayaks onto Sg Rayu. Law, sick and tired of being always last on every trip in his sluggish inflatable’ squirted off in my perception squirt and was no where to be seen until we reached the beach at Kuala Rambungan. When we caught up with him and asked him why he was in such a hurry, he replied that he didn’t want to be last as he is using the shortest kayak!

After we landed at the beach on the jetty side of Kuala Rambungan, Joseph went around looking for sea shells and was surprised instead to find one of his office colleagues amongst a group of people on a Christian outing at the other corner of what we thought was a deserted beach.

Meanwhile Law and I practiced surf launching and landing; after which we decided to go for a swim. Robin hesitantly joined us after a while; worrying about losing his contact lens in the surf.

It had been raining everyday and true to form, dark clouds gathered in the distance and so we decided to go back. As we were nearing the jetty; it began to rain bucketfuls. Law again sprinted ahead followed by Joseph while I waited for Robin, half expecting brickbats if not complaints of being soaked from head to toe, but he was still his usual cheerful effervescent self; or perhaps he was just too out of breath to talk!

We were drenched but happy – what a glorious way to be spending Boxing Day!

Ohhhhh...I want to be there, not here wondering whether Kokatat is going to get my drysuit back to me in time for my annual New Year's Day paddle...whimper whimper.
Hihi Bonnie, yes, you certainly should be there.

It was great fun and definitely a trip where you can add into your life experiences in kayaking.

The paddling down the river was most pleasant. You can see the mangrove trees and their intimidating roots. The Napa palms were a great attraction too.

The peace, the calm river, the tranquility, the occasionally call of the monkeys and birds blended with the humming of the insects. I did have alot of peace in the middle of the water.

As the flow of stamina could only reach my arm, I have to take many breaks in between and enjoy the scenery.

Isn't that similiar to life, we should slow down and smell the flowers at interval...

Peace, Love and Compassion
FH2o, I too enjoyed the trip. Tks for sharing the experience. Noticed the paddle. Is that the one that got Robin turning 'uncute' at the Sgp airport? hehehe!

Hey Robin, I certainly agree with the peace and tranquility aspect of such an outing in such a remote, Godforsaken (Cantonese say 'so faraway that even lightning doesn't strike there') corner of the earth. ;)

FH2o, love the first picture - so picture-perfect like a postcard. The one with the beach reminds me of sea-shells - so cute and lovely.

Peace.
bonnie - come over here for a paddle anytime soon!

'bin - glad u enjoyed it despite the slight 'struggle' back and the blisters (didnt know that - lend u gloves nxt time ok)

happy - join us one fine day (dun worry - i'll put robin on a slower kayak; so u'll be safe!) Hey! I thought all my photos look like postcards! ;o)
I actually had a postcard quality picture which was deleted by some kiasu person and even a video. It could have earned me lots of lobsters meal.
robin - why am I so happy :-) to hear this distressing news of yours? kekeke

btw are u sure u didn't skip lectures when 'invasion of privacy', 'libel laws' and 'harrassment' were being taught? kekeke
Stunning pictures, and Robin was obviously in heaven.

Godforsaken, Happysurfer? I think maybe you have it backwards. ;^)
wow you are serious doing your hobby. I like all your pic kayaking. ever kayaking at Rejang river, hehehe maybe not safe for kayaking because sometimes high waves and river flow too fast.
WOW! Love all the pics. My favorite is the one depicting the dark and heavy raincloud! You must have a true waterproof camera for taking pics in the rain.
Agus, so right... I am waiting for the price to drop further so that I can get a second one, since the first is in fH2o's hands now..

(oops, Madame fH2o better dun read this part or else you may have one ear left)

Ok, Rejang River.. our next trip!

more pics here!

Aiyo ,must pull customer mah... hehe..
panda - thanks - we were blessed with great light on that boxing day morning.
oh, robin was good company too! ;o)

cuthess - as a matter of fact we had seriously thought about doing a first descent of the mighty Batang Rajang with my other spore friend Huey, from source to sea, but we gave up the idea as it would be too depressing an expedition to see this great river (the longest in Sarawak) being spoilt by the siltation and soil erosion caused by excessive logging and construction of that needless huge dam upstream. The once clear and green water are now 'teh tarik' in colour along its ENTIRE 565kms length!

agus - i use a Pentax Optio43WR 4MP camera. an affordable and rather basic water resistant camera (not waterproof but rain is fine)
U have great taste; I liked that pic 2!

folks - for your information, Robin behaves like a kid in person too, not just on the blog! Luckily I have 3 kids of my own - so i know how to handle this juvenile ... tsk tsk
I am semi officially serving you, fH2o, your writ of summon to answer the defamation suit in honor of Sir Robin notwithstanding your written apology receive via open post with no implied or implicit remarks but not without due respect to our client subject to further clarification or withdrawal of the said statement in void prohibited by law and this writ is revocable at the sole discretion of this court.

Your Brat!
u see what i mean?

I rest my case, your honour!
Your pictures are so professional!! Looks better than Robin's. LOL! (NO offence, Robin!)

Keep it up, man!
thanks day-dreamer! glad that u like 'em.
but next time pl don't comment on the OBVIOUS thing! ;o) LOL!

juz kidding robin, now pl don't start cry in front of all these nice people here!
Hello, Daydreamer, there is this 'Block' function which I execute...

See fH2o also did not put his name big big in all his 'beautiful' pics, unlike some other super kiasu bloggers.

kekeke... oops, no case?
I think you've been to exposed to the Singaporean culture of kiasuism, Robin. Hehe... :D

If you hadn't noticed, I've kept mine to the smallest as possible. No BIG harm done.
day-dreamer - oh! u've changed your pic! is this a female thing like changing handbags, dresses, shoes, etc?

yar lor, 'bin very kiasu one. haven't u noticed that he must always have the last word? and sometimes its the first and last words as well! sigh!

peace bro! ;o)
Ya lor, if you didn't remind me, I also did not notice the change of pics..

But still very dreamy looking leh, maybe that's why she is called Daydreamer
No no no, my changing of display picture has nothing to do with your so-called a female thing like changing handbags, dresses, shoes, etc"...

It's just that having used the old picture for so long, it's time for a change. It is, after all, the arrival of the new year! LOL.
