Friday Reminder:' We're Mere Mortals' (with a Prod in the Back)

posted by FH2o

I felt a pull on my back at lunchtime wednesday; and the pain got gradually worst and by time I was about to leave the office for home, I was 'standing' like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

My children called me an “Immortal” as I am one of those people who hardly ever fall sick (touch wood). But being human, and as tall people are commonly afflicted with, my Achilles’ heel is my lower back. My poor posture (I tend to slump when I sit) certainly does not help. So before it gets worst, I decided to go for a full body massage at one of the ‘blind center’ massages place; to give them some business as that’s their main source of income. I had previously been massaged by Stewart Renggie (hp 013-8168799) of FortuneLand Health Services Centre (082-241741) and so I called him for an appointment and he was only available at 6pm. So I went straight there from the office. At R$25/- for an hour’s worth, it’s very good value for money in a modest but clean surroundings on the first floor of a row of shophouses just off Rock Road. As Stewart massaged me we chatted between my moaning and groaning when he pressed (shiatsu style) on a tender spot. Stewart is a competent masseur and a relaxed and cheerful person; and I felt grateful for his care and attention.

I walked out feeling much better and relieved that my backache is on the mend. A backache is a gentle (but painful) reminder not to take my back or anything or anyone for granted and to count my blessings; and also to sit upright when typing this blog! Be Well !

Oh I know very well how a back pain hurts. I got a snap in my system while brushing my tongue. I guess my system wasn't awake yet when I got that puke action going on and somehow my back snapped in the jerking motion. I suffered for 3 days! Couldn't even get up at first, on the second morning! Felt so old and vulnerable!
aiyo.. I went for Tui Na in Sinagpore because of my neck problems .. and everytime I go, I will have pain for the next 2 days but well for the rest of week.

Hmm... we are all not getting younger everyday.. Calcium Supplement will help as the bone mass reduces with AGE!
I think there's no denying that the activities or hobbies one engages in are in part contributing to the ailments, Over-exposure to a set position increases the chance of our body parts being worn out. So, everything in moderation, guys.

Old wives tale - guys should take care of that back (for obvious reasons). ;)
went for back massage? so syiok :)
I frequently go for traditional blind foot massage as well :D
occasionally I will go for shoulder massage :D
agus - heard of ppl get backpain when they sneezed; but not when brushing their teeth!

robin - had increased my calcium-magnesium intake since that day.
Hmmm, this certainly confirmed that u're a pain-in-d-neck! heehee

happysurfer - pl educate us on d "obvious reasons"!!

chen - doc, massage is not shiok lah under the circumstances ...
only massaged by my dearest grandmom whenever I'm in sarikei.

Kayaking should help to strengthen the back muscle especially. I have experienced problem on my wrist after carrying heavy stuff, but when I started to kayak the pain just sort of dissappear.
Hey hey...
super nice sunset photo of the river there !!!! I seldom see such sunsets back home. Good thing you shot that scene !!! Truly amazing !!!
9lives - aiyo! u shud let your grandmother rest lah! U shud massage her instead!
Kayaking is a great form of exercise. when u're doing it properly, u actually exercise your entire body not just your arms. beginners find it hard to believe that when u paddle, u actually try NOT to use your arms! Paddle with your Whole body.

robin wong! - its kinda of funny that I always seem to be the only one seeing these type of sceneries! they are actually there a lot of the time; how else can i manage to capture 'em otherwise!
I have sure missed my massage therapist on Maui. I visited her every several months for about ten years before I left Hawaii. Working at a desk in a stressful job, it really made a difference for me, both physcially and mentally.
