Ever Seen a Transparent Butterfly?

by FH2o on March 17, 2006

Ever seen a transparent butterfly? Well sort of, as if it’s truly transparent we would not be able to see it at all! Anyway a friend of mine from KL (hi Larry!) sent me these delightful photographs of them. Unfortunately there were no other accompanying information about these butterflies and the source of the images; so I can’t give credit where credit is truly due; but they are simply and absolutely stunning to look at.

What a magical sight for the weekend! Enjoy!

Beautiful, but is it real?

Wuching March 18, 2006 at 3:25 am

cilaka! who so cruel, cut out the poor butterfly’s wings ar?

Gette March 18, 2006 at 3:52 am

It’s a Glasswing butterfly. Quite real although not native to Malaysia. :-)

The Moody Minstrel March 18, 2006 at 5:15 am

That site Gette linked says they are native to Central and South America. Apparently there are also species in Australia, too. I also found them on a couple of European sites, but since the focus was on photography rather than butterflies, it’s hard to say where the pics were taken.

Amazing creatures! Stunning photos. Your second line echoes mine. At first I was like ” how can you see if it’s transperent” and then I read. You got me at ’sort of’.

it’s very awesome indeed

Selba March 18, 2006 at 7:09 pm

OMG, Robin, you wont believe it if I say this, my mom also has this phobia with butterfly though she always thinks that butterfly is beautiful. Hahaha…. My gosh, Robin, you really are the resemble of my mom!!! Can I call you “mother” too :D

Chen March 18, 2006 at 11:20 pm

Can’t imagine hearing Selba calls Robin as “mother”..
muahhahah…

I hope I don’t have to hide under the metal table after saying this.. (hahaha..)

The Moody Minstrel March 19, 2006 at 8:31 am

Since Robin is a guy (or so I assume), calling him a “mother” in most English-speaking countries would have a meaning quite different from what Selba is probably thinking. It’s usually something like this:

(baleful glare, very angry tone of voice) “What did you say, mother?”

If someone said that to me, I’d either get ready to fight for my life or run for it.

9lives March 19, 2006 at 9:10 pm

Moody- That’s an interesting context of using the word “mother”. Selba definitely meant something related to the asian context tho since Robin IS a guy.

Robin March 19, 2006 at 11:02 pm

GRRRRRRRRRRR.

I am holding my hammer now!!~

Happysurfer March 20, 2006 at 3:26 am

Robin, just a thought - if you have a phobia of butterflies, then how to go “pockh teep” with you leh? ;) haha….

There may be noticeably a bundle to know about this. I assume you made certain nice factors in features also.
