Froggy's Feast

posted by FH2o

There was an 'outbreak' of flying insects (termites?) after the rain last night with swarms of them congregating at any light sources. There was a particularly large swarm around the street lamp just outside the house. After flying around the lights for a while (around half an hour I'd guessed) they would drop to the ground (from exhaustion?) and became a smorgasbord for creatures that feed on insects; particulary frogs, which started hopping out from the bushes to feast on this unexpected buffet dinner!

I was watching this for a while before it dawned on me that I should quickly take a few snaps to share this. So here are the pictures and don't you think that the swirling insects around the lights look like fireworks? And I also managed to get up close and personal (my camera was just inches away) with Mr Froggy to get his potraits!

i think that's a toad.
happy eating with the frog yes?
Always a nuisance when that happens. But it's pretty easy to divert from entering the house. Just turn on the porch light and switch off the rest. And it's interesting to see frogs and toads zap their meals, totally ignoring humans nearby during this buffet.
oh, wow, reminds me of once, just once, when I was a kid in Hawaii - there was a flying cockroach swarm one night. SO disgusting! We closed up the house as tightly as we could & watched 'em walking around on the windows. Pretty soon all the geckoes were out. Go gecko go!

Our poor cat, we wouldn't let her go outside & between the geckoes and the roaches she was going nuts - making that little noise cats make when they see something they really want to hunt.

By the next day the roaches were thank goodness all gone...
Yes, definitely, MGD,

U should have taken a picture of the toad sticky out his tongue to catch his dinner.. Then that should go to Animal Planet..
hmmm.. I realise you are also putting your name on the pics..

Guess people are indeed copying your pics with no acknowledgement.

Or you got the Jelly and Chen's infection?
