After getting soaked putting the kayaks on top of our car racks; we headed towards Rambungan with everyone thinking that I must know what I was doing as I assured them that the rain cannot last forever and that the sun’s going to break through the cloud covers at anytime. I was wrong.

With the rain and the King Tide just receding when we got to the put-in; Livan and Lohon, two adventurous sisters apprehensively pointed out that the currents were moving a bit fast and I reassured them that it was ‘manageable’. The 'manageable' currents took us to reach the beach in record time of less than half an hour instead of the usual hour over long trip. I picked a sheltered bay to get off and the two sisters wandered off to explore the storm battered beach. Battered it was as entire trees were uprooted! KS remarked that it looked as if the place has just been strucked by a tsunami; and it does! Luckily I'm not a superstitious person or else KS would had gotten wacked with a paddle! Coupled with the rain, the atmosphere was bleak but not our spirits!

As we play beach-combers, Joe decided to get some re-entry practice with his sit-on-top kayak; a requisite I had mentioned to him if he wants to join me sea kayaking. After explaining the general concept to him Joe then gave it a go and promptly flipped himself over the other side of the kayak! But after several exhausting (“this is not so easy ler unker!”) tries, Joe managed to re-enter his kayak with claps from Dayang, Azmi and KS who were being entertained by Joe’s performance. I was thinking that if we were really out at sea and with the waves and currents, Kenny Sia would have a better chance of completing the marathon than Joe getting back on his kayak! KS decided to have a go as well and he did much better by getting back on with his first attempt. Finally Azmi (racing kayak champion) showed how it’s done by lithely mounting the kayak effortlessly both from the sides and front of the kayak. Show off!It was raining the entire time without any signs of letting up and so we decided to go back without waiting for the tide to be in our favour. I was with Livan on a double while Azmi was with Lohong and pretty soon we left Joe, Dayang and KS far far behind in their singles. So, who’s calling who ‘unker’?

Eventually we were back at the jetty and Livan and Lohong were all smiles as they waved us goodbye; glad that they had done something different and interesting this weekend. They were lovin’ it despite the rain and weather! I mean just take a look at the photos of us having fun in the rain! Kayaking in the rain anyone?
