Unwelcomed Visitor

posted by FH2o

Boy! I'm tired!

I had spent the good part of the evening, trying unsuccessfully, to find and evict this critter from our house. Apparently it sneaked into the house in the afternooon and mdm saw it went inside my kayaking stuff store and she promptly closed the door after it. That's her story anyway as after laboriously and with great trepidations, unloading almost every single item from the store, the nearly 2 feet (60cm) long lizard is still nowhere to be found. *sigh*

As you can imagine everyone in the house is unhappy about this unwelcomed visitor although I'm not that uptight over the situation as I'm sure it would leave the house on its on accord - eventually. I had sent in our dogs to try so sniff it out but to no avail.

So folks, any brilliant suggestions or bright ideas on what I can do before I get evicted from the house as well?

Ah! The joys and pleasures of living so close to nature ...

Btw; I have taken the above pic from Robin's site as from mdm's description this is the guilty creature.StumbleUpon Toolbar Stumble It!

is this lizard not also ephemeral, and so, in a sense merely 'passing through' our lives? :)
I don't have any bright suggestion for u..
Good luck unker in the lizard hunting process.. :)
Or have u found the little "crocodile" liao?
buy the lizard spray! i think its called "cold feet"
Aiya..ya..ya..., I even can't bear a small lizard, and now this one is 60 cm long? :(

What do they eat? insects? or meat? why don't you try to trick it to come out from the hiding with food, it must be hungry by now right?

Will it bites or attacts people?
flaneur - actually i'm cool w it around but the rest of the family unfortunately do not share this same sentiment ...
As the 'man of the house'; I'm supposed to take care of this type of 'problem' *sigh*

chen - it could have gone into the other ground floor rooms of the house. hmmmm

hanna - what 'cold feet'? repellant?

selba - they eat insects and rotting meat and they do have sharp teeth and strong jaws ... so you can imagine what it can do if cornered!
As with most wild creatures they generally do not attack unless provoked. And I'm not gonna provoke it for sure!
it's a mini buaya :D
hahahaha... my dad is the official cockroach-frog-lizard catcher at home too.

well, if you really did unload everything and it's nowhere to be seen then it's prolly gone already.

it's a biawak and you may try luring it out with raw meat, dog food or chicken eggs.
hedon - is your dad free this evening? :)
Phew, for a moment there I thought hedon wrote "...raw meat, dog meat or chicken eggs."

But yeah, biawak is a rare sight and always delightful to see one from far. Any nearer, like sitting with me in a kayak, I would have freaked out too and probably jumped into the water, only to discover more biawak infesting the water... Yikes!
The thought gives me the shudders.

Especially poisonous ones like the gila monster. Do we have them here?
oh dear... the buaya is in the house, literally.. hehehehehe..

How could YinYang let him in?

A good way to deal with the problem is get our cats and put them into the room for a while. The Cats seem to be able to deal with lizards very well, from my experience.

BTW, my cats in the Kuching house is available for rental.. speak to Nina..

My neighbour at both left and right sweared that their house are visited by a python... and one day I saw it just glide past my fence without stopping.. and already both Gucci and Tiffi is barking like crazy at it.

hahaha
agus - u r way ahead of yourself n way too imaginative! heehee

robin - not a good idea about borrowing Nina's cats ... as our dogs like nothing better than to chase cats down and ...
Hopefully d lizard will slither away the same way it came.
yes, it will slither away hopefully.. like the last time we saw it sunning at your deck.

or else wait for the white puppy in the house.. he will definitely chase it away...
All this talk about lizards is giving me the creeps! Agus, I'm with you. Can we change the subject, please? FH2o, I'll settle for clouds then.
2 feet long! Wow! I always liked the little geckoes & anoles in Hawaii but...well, they're little!
Be thankful you don't have a tokay gecko running around in your house. One of my college roommates had one as a pet, and he started letting it run around loose in our room! That was a mean, little varmint! An errant grab could get someone a bitten-off finger!
When faced with unwanted "guests", I have found that putting 'moth balls' in attic spaces and closets usually gets them to go away. It will smell up the spaces for a time, but perhaps that's better than having a two foot lizard in the house.
moody - i think this critter could undoubtedly do the same - biting off a digit of two!

panda - thanks for the good suggestion. I'll do just that!

Guys Lets try to solve the probelm. In spore can buy Lizzy (gecko) Glue Traps-non toxic for small lizzies. I have tried Shelton spray(for insects)on them and boy lizzy become real dead....

Since yo lizzy so big 2 ft yah is it an iguana ? Use a wire mouse trap and make your own bigger one and put a bait inside for lizzy to eat. Let me know if it works.
emma - thanks, but we'd not seen it since then; so we presumed that it has left the house for its natural habitat! during the daytime, the patio doors are wide opened, so it could have slithered out the way it came in! Let's hope so! ;)
