Guess what? We saw irrawaddy dolphins again today!
I’d been dolphins infatuated and this morning I took a group of friends (including Huey and Robin from Spore & Joe and Dan from Kuching) for dolphins watching again! That’s twice in a span of 5 days and the amazing thing was that we spotted them within five minutes of getting on the water!
I was so excited this time that I forgot to take photos and by the time I realised it; I only managed to take one shot and just as suddenly the dolphins appeared, they disappeared just as quickly!
We managed to spot about 3 to 4 small pods of them. It was a short 15 minutes encounter but one that would last a lifetime in the memories of all us.
Here are some quick snaps of our dolphins watching kayaking trip this Saturday morning!

Is really amazing to know that even at Kuching have dolphins, if have the chance one day I would like to take photos of them as well.
Taking photos of the elusive irrawaddy dolphins from a kayak is a very, VERY challenging task!
First u dont know where n when they’re gonna appear. And they are constantly on the move! You have to be not only extremely quick and alert but u need to be very lucky as well as you only get one chance when you spot them.
Oh btw did i forget to mention that one must be able to kayak as well first?
Wilson - you already have the chance as you are already in kuching and you know me!
it’s simply a matter of you making it happen! Follow Nike’s good advice - “Just DO IT”!
And the rest of you folks - “What are you waiting for?” Cheers!
never know there are dolphins in Kuching till I read your previous post few days back
Hard to believe, but… Seeing IS Believing..
Hehhe.. Got picture here as proof in your previous post
wondering … when will I get the chance to see the dolphins in real life
I think you must have accidentally acquired some magical force that attracts both dolphins and scary-looking clouds. I envy and fear you at the same time!
chen - doc, like Wilson, u’ve Excellent Chances lah! Just come over to see me and hop in a kayak with yours truly! Very Simple actually! Just say when!
moody - that’s a good one! LOL!
Thanks, unker. looking forward to that day
Hope u are in town when I go back there.
I will go back to Kuching in few months time
chen - let me know when u’re comin n I’ll make sure that I’m around loh!
If u dunno how to swim yet; time to start learning!
Hmmm perhaps u n Wilson can be on the same kayak ..
The dolphins video is at my blog!
Thanks Robin!
Hmmm next time I should try video instead of stills for these darn shy n elusive irrawaddy dolphins …
I was truly happy meeting and watching the dolphins. Very happy.
fullmoon - what more can I say? that i was ‘over the moon?’ heehee
aiyak, have to learn swimming first ah?
then have to wait for long time liao loh…
chen - to see dolphins, we are on a wide stretch/body of open waters and if the weather suddenly turns bad, it would require at least half an hour to turn n reach shore. in that time a lot can happen. and if we do tip over, i would have to ‘rescue’ our boat n paddles n it would help a lot if i dont have to worry so much about another person. naturally the person comes first n in that time the boat n paddles could easily get swept out to sea along with us … dont play play out there! i do not take anything for granted.
learning to swim is easy. i could swim only after 5 trips to the pool n could swim the entire length by the 10th visit. u have plenty of time to learn lah!
Wilson, all you need to do is ask Unker, I am sure he will take you in the next trip!!!
Bring your big smile!
