Pink Bananas Anyone?

by FH2o on May 5, 2006

Our pink bananas tree finally bore fruits! Yes, you heard it right – pink bananas or Musa velutina ‘Pinkie’. The bananas and flowers are formed on top of 5 to 6 ft high stalks.

Here are some pics of them. Beautiful aren’t they?

How do they taste like? Unfortunately this is an ornamental plant and the bananas are non-edible. Too bad!

Aren’t these nicknamed Angelfruit or Angel Bananas or something? That’s what I was told as a kid when I saw these fruit.

This is the first time we’d planted ‘em so they’re quite a novelty to us! ;)

Not edible? Don’t even attract birds? Nice colour to spruce up the garden though.
