Kayaking For Families!

posted by FH2o

It was the long Labour Holiday weekend and we were booked for the entire weekend. And taking Livian’s suggestion in our Guest Book to heart that more families should join our trips; it was almost entirely a family affair!

  • On Saturday Donald and Marina from Singgasana Lodge brought along their nephews and nice – Ariez, Adam and Myra for the Rainforest Kayak Trip. Talk about ninja turtle kids; which pale in comparison to the antics of these daredevil kids! Donald later emailed me that they would be posting some of the photos of the trip on their website! He also mentioned that the kids are already pestering their parents for another river trip!
Jason with the Kick and KS ("I must bring my videographer next time!") were also along for the river ride.

  • On Sunday, it was James and Servane’s turn to bring along their kids Morgane, Tristan and Gawen down the river. This time it had rained overnight and the water flow was faster but James and kids were wishing it was faster still! They enjoyed the trip so much these kind folks actually took the trouble to email me to let me know. Their letter is now proudly posted at my Kuching Kayak’s website’s Testimonials! Thank you all!
Neil from UK was the lone ranger on this trip as his partner had to take a rain check.
Bev helped me to keep an eye on things as we floated down the river!

  • On Labour Day Monday, Robert and Josephine took their kids Danielle and Donovan (who at 13 and 11 had already kayaked many times previously) for Dolphins watching. We thought the dolphins had really taken a labour day holiday as well until we spotted a few of them briefly on the way back!

So here are the photos folks! A family that kayaks together stays together! Come and join us!

Now lets all sing along to Sister Sledge's (you don't know who they are? tsk! tsk!) - "We Are Family ... !"

have u ever kayak down rejang river?
wuching - 2 years ago we were actually planning a "1st descent" down the entire length of the longest river in sarawak; but we were put off and depressed by the sight of the heavily silted up river along its entire length caused by the logging, developments and of course the Bakun Dam upstream. a truly distressing and miserable 'teh tarik' river to be on for a couple of weeks. hey! there are other much nicer unpolluted rivers to kayak lah! ;)
Hmm.. The Sarawak Tourist Board should give you an award from promoting a good sport.. and the Ministry of Home Affairs should give you an award too.

Great Pics..
robin - how i wished!!!

I'm havin a little problem gettin an appointment seeing the CEO of Sarawak Tourism ... too busy and according to the secretary 'maybe' I can get to see her towards the end of May! Called last week n they tell me to call this week and I did ... So much for getting an award from them!!! I'll EAT MY PADDLE!

But I managed to get an appointment to see someone 'lower down'- the Marketing Manager; on monday. *sigh* be thankful for small mercies I tell myself.

I have the most interesting/unique/original/fun/exciting tourist product this century and yet ... hahaha! Pioneers are the ones with arrows sticking out of their backs I'd been told!

Good thing I've "Cultural Capital" meaning that I'm a professional (an architect) giving me some sort of credibility. IF NOT, they'll probably think that I'm some sort of 'kayaking kukoo' and will have no time of day for me! *BIG sigh*

Such is life.
Rome wasn't built in a day.
Work the plan and the plan will work. Best wishes.
happy - yes of course.

Thks for the reminder. I'm workin it and staying positive!

And would be most happy to eat my paddle! ;)
And you thought it was that easy to be called a "pioneer" *wink*. It's really great what you're doing to promote more adventurous sports in Sarawak. Gives tourist an alternative experience. After all, next to the longhouses, we are known for our rivers. :) Here in the Peninsular, the tourism board actually included kayaking and other adventurous sports as part of the tourism promotion. I know you may find it hard but Sarawak needs it.

I will be back for the RWMF. Let me see if my friend is game for a kayak trip. *wink* We decided to go for the opening and closing concerts so that leaves Saturday with quite a free day to do other things. She's one of my adventure kaki as well. :)
poison - haha! i look forward to seeing you and your friend in July then! ;)
don't know if it's true but i once heard that Miri River is the dirtiest river in Malaysia..

can someone verify that?
