I posted about Mammatus Clouds back in April and you know what? I had managed to photograph “mammatus clouds” here in Kuching on Gawai Day! Although not as dramatic as the ones in the April posting but they do look like miniature ones don’t they? And even if they are not mammatus clouds, they are still abundantly beautiful clouds!
Did anyone else in Kuching saw them?

What a spectacular sky! I’d call that a big change from the gentle one in your last post! Dramatic with a capital D!
More like strato cumulus I think.

i frequently visit other sites but leave no footprints …
I wished I had my cloud chart with me from the stormspotter training class. You got a very good picture of what I believe is called alto cumulus. They are definetly not mammatus clouds. I’m a storm chaser and I have seen and photoed mammatus clouds. Don’t feel bad, you’re not the only who has taken these clouds to be mammatus. If I remember right, they should be alto cumulus, although alto cumulus can take on different forms. Those clouds that look like a lense are also alto cumulus. But your picture might be strato cumulus also. It’s got to be one of the two. Who knows, it might be cirro cumulus.
I just went to another site, they are cirro cumulus clouds. Alto cumulus looks exactly the same, except they’re mid-level clouds and appear a little bit larger when they’re in the type of pattern your photo has. It is easy to mess up on some of these cloud formations because of similarities.
