Sibu Branded Oranges

posted by FH2o

Not to be outdone by the imported oranges from Australia or California sporting their proud stickers; I saw these green oranges from 'Oya' district with their proud 'Sibu' brand. At RM4/- per kg compared to the common local variety (RM2/- or less per kg) this brand commands a premium price. I bought only half a kg (3 oranges) back to try and immediately regretted not buying more when I got home and ate one. They were juicy, flavourful and sweet; equivalent to if not better than the imports.

So the next time you are in Sibu - do yourself a favour and try some 'Sibu' branded oranges proudly grown in the oya area. This is one of the sweetest things you can do for yourself in Sibu!

I prefer the typical Sibu/Sarikei oranges with tinge of sourness :)
that's new to me!
wuching - u've been away for too long?
green skin tangerines.. hmmm

sweet or not?
could this be the local answer to my favorite navel orange? I hope they prosper, expand and export this to west malaysia so I can soon get a cheaper dose of sweet vitamin c (and antioxidants?)
I think these oranges have a lot of Yang element in them too meaning too much of them will give you a sore throat or make you ill due to the heatiness. A lot of our local fruits have the same effect. Perhaps less is more?
Think globally, buy locally.
