We Went Dolphins Spotting and Spotted Orang Puteh/Utans …

by FH2o on August 16, 2006

Despite the haze and the slight language barrier, the Schuster Family of 6 from Germany who are visiting Kuching for the first time are determined to have fun on their dolphins spotting trip yesterday morning.

We were lucky to spot a few pods of dolphins not long after we got on the waters despite the poor visibility due to the haze which does not appear to be abating. The surrounding beautiful mountains and landscape of the estuary were obscured from view and staring into this thick blanket of blankness is not exactly exciting to say the least.

So the Schuster Family decided that they would go swimming and diving into the seas instead; but not after strict instructions on how to re-mount the kayaks and the necessity to keep their life jackets on at all times.

Here are some of the photos of the antics of these orang-utans orang-puteh from Germany!

Gee! Where did u see the orang utan? In some oil palm estate running after the illegal immigrant workers??? Ha ha ha ha!

It shows that Orang Putih / Orang Utan has more sense than some people, to jump into the sea to wash out the grime and soot of the haze from their body…….Water..water all around in the heat and haze and what you do? sit in the kayak and take photo’s of people :P

AAAAGH!!! What’s a “putih”? So curious!

Also so curious - I may have to ask you if you can please post a picture of one of these famous ugly-cat statues!

BTW this family looks like they had the best time of just about anyone!

FH2O August 17, 2006 at 6:55 pm

bonnie - ‘orang putih’ means ‘white person’; ‘putih’ is malay word for ‘white’. a loose non-derogatory slang for any caucasians.

Oh no! request for the ugly-cat statues that assault our visual senses on a daily basis! *sigh* ;)

This family knows how to have fun and a great time frolicking like dolphins!

bonnie August 17, 2006 at 8:18 pm

Ah, I was thinking “orang utan” was man of the woods, so maybe “puteh” was “water”. Yes, they look like they know how to frolic!

And you’re off the hook for ugly cat statues! A google search under “ugly cat statue Kuching” gives 379 choices.
