On a River Under the Shade

posted by FH2o

Had a big fight with my teenage daugher this morning which started over some apparently trivial matter and quickly escalates to a drama of box office proportions. As a consequence she skipped school, locked herself in her room and I left for the office in a huff; angry, dismayed and regretting that this has ever happened. Ah, the joys of fatherhood with a teenage daughter brought up in a globalised 'me-first' world of instant gratification and little appreciation. And meanwhile another 'drama' awaits me at the office ...

When this old world starts a getting me down the best place for me is not up on a roof but Down on a River and Under the Shade.

Up on the Roof

Carole king (attributed to james taylor...)

When this old world starts a getting me down

And people are just too much for me to face

Ill climb way up to the top of the stairs

And all my cares just drift right into space

On the roof, its peaceful as can be

And there the world below dont bother me, no, no

So when I come home feeling tired and beat

Ill go up where the air is fresh and sweet

Ill get far away from the hustling crowd

And all the rat-race noise down in the street

On the roof, thats the only place I know

Look at the city, baby

Where you just have to wish to make it so

Lets go up on the roof

And at night the stars they put on a show for free

And, darling, you can share it all with me

Thats what I said

Keep on telling you

That right smack dab in the middle of town

I found a paradise thats troubleproof

And if this old world starts a getting you down

Theres room enough for two

Up on the roof...

Maybe less time on the river, more time with the family could be the remedy for this? But then again, cant comment much on family problems, just pray that it will all work out in the end..anyway..teenagers...used to be one..and some people can say that i still have the mind of one, is always difficult to understand...but that's a period of growing..no?
Cool down, like father like daughter..

both sama sama.. better do something to make up tonite
hope things will work out and turn out well in the end...
Teenagers are teenagers wherever you go.

My own little girl will be one in just a couple of years. Oh, joy...

Good luck with the family thing, Unker!
wish both of you well...

Ahfeiko is so right. That part about the yelling.

FH2o, no worries and no grudges, it's just a passing phase. Kiss and make up. She's daddy's little girl, right?

Hope all's well again. Cheerio!
