Kelvin Goes To Mulu

posted by FH2o

My friend Kelvin went to Mulu over the National Day holidays and I lent him my Sony Cyber-shot U DSC-U60 digital camera so that he could take some photos of the place especially the rivers as I'd not, shame to say, been to Mulu yet. Is it not deplorable that one has been to far away foreign countries all the world and yet have not been to places in one own's State? A regrettable situation that I would need to redress.

Anyway enjoy the lovely and interesting photos taken by Kelvin which I'd taken the liberty to do some cropping and rotation to get the composition I like and a little tweaking of the contrasts and colours to compensate for the exposure variations. Thanks Kelvin for taking the trouble so that I could share this here. You not only have a heart for the people but a keen eye on life around you as well.

I've never even heard of Mulu.

Of course, I probably haven't heard of most places in Malaysia...

People go to Mulu because of the caves (it's a World Heritage site) and it houses the largest cave in the world in the form of Deer Cave. Since I was not that interested in caves, I avoided the tourists and went to chat with the Penan in their settlement. By the second day, my friend & I went downriver to Tutoh river and camped for two nights by the river. Shot two huge wildboars and BBQ-ed it. Nothing better than that! Not even the caves. ;-)
Beautiful. I especially like the shot of the long boats. Very colorful and would make a nice subject for a painting.

I'd visit Mulu if I had the Mula.
Oh, boy! BBQ pork. Licking my chops.
wag wag wag
Kelvin, are the Penan people still in their traditional garb?

I like the second last shot. It is so tranquil. Bliss.
Mulu??? never heard about that place....

My favourite pic for this post will be the "dog eyes BBQ pork" :)

happysurfer: Only when you want them to. Who wears their traditional attire on a daily basis these days, right? ;-)

selba: check out http://www.mulupark.com - the dogs are crazy about wildboars, cooked or otherwise! You should see them chase the thing when the smell is in the air. Very difficult to run after them in the jungle.
