Same Old, Same Old

posted by FH2o

Bright flower to ponder on the dull days of our lives ...

Is everyday the same stale “same-old, same-old” dull routine; or is it within our powers to change our lives to be different or more exciting? How many of us are prepared to take the risks in undertaking such changes? Can we handle a change in career, work routine, work place, new demands and all the uncertainties that come with this? Are we able to pick ourselves up again if we stumble or fail in this new and uncertain venture?

It may be easier for the young but probably unheard of for those past the half-century mark to make such a move. On the otherhand how do we know what we are capable of if we do not explore the possibilities? I suppose each one of us have our own way of defining what makes us feel alive. Do we have the courage and confidence? Is it foolhardy? Would you step out of your comfort zone? I'm about to take a deep plunge ...

Why not ?
What happen Francis, sound very melancholy ? Having mid-life crisis ?

Personally, I would only take a deep plunge if I know I have a safety net underneath that deep plunge, otherwise it can be pretty nasty to the old bones :)-.

So where are you taking the deep plunge ? doing what ? Don't tell me u are going India to be a monk ? ha ha ha ha.
Aiyo Francis this is my 2 cent on this statement
, "On the otherhand how do we know what we are capable of if we do not explore the possibilities?"

my 2cents take is give young people chance lah, we oleri 1/2 feet in 'long moutain', still want to 'peia' ? no lah, better relax , sit back and let the next generation explore lah. Might be along the way we can mentor and share our experience and know hows.

U not enough explore eh ? aiyo , kesian lah. U should go relax lah... why still want to plunge ? Not enough plunge eh ?

Yes, true :"I suppose each one of us have our own way of defining what makes us feel alive."
Some people way of definition is take advantage of others, some people give.

Comfort zone is the best thing in life cos it give us sense of well being. Success bring us comfort zone. Success are not achieve in one day, it involve hard and honest work, innovation and perseverance.

My 2cents from an old lady :)-
Come relax at my 50acreas of farm land in the nowhere wilderness.

Cheers !
Hi Francis. How timely your remarks. I also grappling with this issue. Thinking of making a career switch to something I enjoy doing. I ask myself, at 55 if you don't do it now, you are never going to do it. But, as you said - difficult to leave the comfort zone. plus lack the drive and energy. So many new things to learn. Sigh, I wonder if this is what they call 'andropause'.
kayatan - Wow! That certainly prompted some thoughts!
No mid-life crisis nor lack of energy or drive; perhaps too much energy that could be channelled into something that would make a more significant difference. I'm looking forward to the challenge.
I relax when I'm on the water and kayaking makes for a nice counterbalance in my life. I'm truly fortunate - but u're even more so with that 50 acres of farmland that I would dearly love to visit one day!

lam chun kee - I've committed myself to this new challenge and in the process of 'winding down' what I'm doing now and 'winding up' to this wonderful new challenge that I'm looking forward to. More will be revealed in due course.
I wished you the very best of luck in making your decision. I know how tough it is and the best advice is to listen to your own little voice after you have gone through all the normal 'rational thinking' process! My vey best wishes to you on your decision.
a long time ago an old man said to me that I "should do what you want, now, because when you're old you'll have no money, no friends (because they pass away), and no health. Do it now."

And, more or less, I have tried to follow his advice.

All the best on your new path.
Yes, Francis, u are most welcome to our range home and the horses welcome you too.

Guys must be different from girls lah. I won't even toy the idea if I don't have my safety net. Yes, I switch my career at the age of 45. People back home are amazed !!

I think environment has a lot to do with it . we have a lot more opportunity here than say Malaysia. So much resources. We see people change career all the time whether old or young...

My investment guru is in his mid 80's, he is into his 5th career now. He spend 35ys in Bolivia jungle as missionary, after finished his work in Bolivia, he went back to Uni to do his anthropology studies , got his Ph.D and started work with the Semonon Indians. When he retired from the mission work, he started his own investment company. A few years ago, he started writing anthropology articles for universities and then last years he started published books.

I only do serious work 2days of the week, the rest of the week, I goof (not gulf, I don't like gulf, period), I read, I write, I invest, I ride my horse,I home school my child, we go museums, we go swimming , we do all the funs stuff.

Work is fun, fun is work. I believe I will continue to work and have fun as long as God gives me the breath.

Life is beautiful !!!!!!

All the best to your future undertaking.
