A Fruiting Tree By The River

by FH2o on October 20, 2007

While driving around the Bau area last weekend checking out new rivers to explore for kayaking, I came across this tree by the river which was ‘infested’ with fruits. I think it’s a type of fig tree but I’m not sure. I have seen them with fruits before but not in such abundance as this one! The fruits were larger than the size of golf balls

I ask some of the youths who were around but they had no idea and instead ask me to ask the ‘orang tua’ (old folks) in the village! Television and pop culture are of more interests to youth these days irregardless of whether they are in the city or kampung I guess. *sigh*

Anyone have any idea what this tree is?

penny - according to Arlyne’s dad, it’s “buah ara”.

It’s a kind of fig. The dried fruits has an assam flavor and are used in cooking.
