A sentry truck somewhere on a desolate landfill site in Miri, Sarawak. 21st August 2008
Old trucks never die. They either end up as scrap metal, or if they’re in the middle of nowhere on some desolate land fill site in Miri; they end up as an awkward but otherwise useful guardhouse. And makes for an interesting photography subject on an otherwise hot (and boring) Thursday afternoon site visit on an uninspiring and sparse landscape.

Keep on trukin’ in Miri, yeah! 21st August 2008.

Lunchtime for a squirrel. 26 August 2008
One of the advantages of living in a small city like Kuching is that one can have the luxury of going home for lunch and a nap and making it back to the office in good time afterwards! I could never do that when I was working in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. An hour and half lunch break is most sensible.

Anyway I have the added bonus of having a squirrel for lunch today as well, when one came down from the mangrove trees onto the table at our timber deck where I have left some bananas for the on the weekend for them. And thanks to 6 x optical zoom (210mm) of my Canon G9, I managed to capture some snaps of this really cute squirrel from my dining area, which really is ‘chicken soup’ for the soul and most nourishing. Burp.

A lovely morning from up in the air somewhere on an airline between Kuching and Bintulu. 11 August 2008
Time flies when you’re having fun or you have too much things to do or as you get older; and they are not mutually exclusive in my case. Between my trip to Bintulu on last Monday and Tuesday and my day trip to Miri on Thursday – life has been a blur affording little time for reflection; and I don’t like it. I think we need to do more than just react to situations and people in a knee jerk manner. Whatever.

But no matter how ‘busy’ I am, I’m glad that somehow I’m never too busy to notice the amazing beauty and wonders that is all around us even at 30,000 feet. And a timely snap to capture the moment to relish later.
And whatever situation you may find yourself to be in this weekend; have a great one. As for me I’m going to take it real slow and ideally on a long and winding river.

Some of our guests have come a long way and unfortunately get to know about our kayaking trips only when they get here and so we try our best and even go out of our way to oblige them whenever we can so as not to disappoint them.

Changing subtleties of life and beauty that is all too easy to miss. So don’t. 18 August 2008.
So this morning we have 2 separate trips; one to spot dolphins and the other to Borneo Highlands for the rainforest kayaking adventure trip. I got up early in order to get the gear and stuffs ready for these two trips. In the course of doing this, I kept an eye on and watched the changing colours of the morning sky as the day unfolds. I’m still enthralled by the amazing beauty of the changing hues and intensity of the morning lights as it plays against the rising clouds warmed by the sun. What a show and one which finds a ready and appreciative audience in me. Join me. Have a productive and inspiring week ahead.

Early in the week I received a call inquiring about the suitability of our rainforest kayaking adventure trip for families with young children comprising a small group of about 6. I explained that it is fine as our trips are designed for beginners and suitable for all ages without any serious medical condition. The gentleman called me back several times over the course of the week and with each call adding more and more people to his group! No dates on when they would like to do the trip was mentioned. Then on Friday he confirmed that they would like to do it this Sunday and by which time his group of friends have increased to 16! That was fine as although we have another group going out then, we still have enough kayaks and guides to take care of them.

However yesterday evening I received another call asking us if we could accomodate another family of five bringing the total to 21! And again another call last night pleading us to take in another group of 10 but which of course we couldn’t as we were well overbooked already with another group going out under the care of Bev. Sorry.
I think one of the best fun and adventure thing to do while on holidays or vacation in Kuching is to take our rain forest kayaking trip floating down the beautiful jungles of Borneo. I’m bias of course but to me it is the only true “world class” attraction that we have in Kuching, Sarawak and probably in Malaysia. We have taken out enough tourists from all over the world over the past 2 or so years to know that this is not an empty boast.

Not green with envy but having a “fern” Sunday at home. 17th August 2007 .

Anyway I wished I could have joined them this Sunday morning kayaking through the beautiful rainforests but I’m nursing a pulled left shoulder and have to contend myself with having a “fern” Sunday at home enjoying my garden. Trusting that your weekend have been fun and ideally a green one as well. Not green with envy but earth friendly.
