We are more than justified to be concerned about the safety of food products from China. Since there are also a lot of imports from Taiwan; here’s a way to differentiate Taiwan made products from China made products - by looking at first three digits of its Bar Code.
- If the 1st 3 digits are 690, 691, 692, 693, 694 or 695 - the product is made in China
- If the 1st 3 digits are 471 – the product is made in Taiwan (as per the pic above)
BTW, the bar code for Malaysia is 955 and Singapore is a very auspicious 888. You can check out this and the barcodes for other countries here.

Product origination does not indicate individual ingredients origination. Please stop enseminating misleading information.
thanks for the information
Yeah it is right but it could be a guideline for our own precaution..
Now it seems not only milk is suspect but all food products whether directly laced with melamine or indirectly. The suspicion is that as many of our food products are made by Chinese businesses who are likely to use ingredients imported from China because they are both familiar and cheap, all processed foods and dairy products may be affected. Eggs from fowl that feed on feedmill imported from China, for instance. Flour risers is another.
Then again melamine or Chinese food is not the only potential source of contamination. We dump our sewage into the longkang which flows untreated into the river into the sea. So our sea food comes from fish, crabs and shells that feed on smaller creatures which feed on even smaller critters which feed on the sludge. Yucks! And what about the air, water which damage our lungs and kidneys and false information on the internet which poisons our minds? And cigarettes? Don’t they cause diabetes and cancer of the colon?
I really wish people would research this more before it got around the internet. This only refers to EAN numbers and not North American UPC numbers. EAN numbers are European Article Numbers(European Barcodes)
Some companies in the US could have product UPC/barcode that start with a 690, 691, 692, 693, 694 or 695 but that doesn’t mean the product is from China.
Currently it just means their unlucky if North Americans are believing the internet rumors.
Hi! I am interested in an article u wrote titled,” Tiger Aman………”.
My mother is Tiger Aman’s daughter. She has never seen him when he was alive.
She is keen to connect with her long-lost relatives in KL.
Appreciate if you could make that happen.
Thanks and Regards,
