What happened on my birthday should actually be what didn’t happened on my birthday – a celebration out on Xe Bang Fai River in Laos with Huey and gang. I had been living out in my mind’s eye about this nearly 2 weeks expedition for the past couple of months since Huey first brought it up and the photo of Xe Bang Fai river cave from the National Geographic expedition whetted my imaginations further on the adventures that would lie ahead. But like they say; its water under the bridge now; and I for one do not dwell on regrets. Huey (bless his soul) reassured me that he has trips planned up to 2012!
To ‘console’ me as well, my other half offered to cook her famous “Sarawak Laksa” so that I could invite a few of my friends over for a simple birthday lunch celebration. I took up her offer and invited a few of my friends over – without telling them that it was my birthday. Not that I did not appreciate the fact that I’m going on 25 while paddling to 52 but I really do not like people to make a fuss over me and what better way to spend one’s birthday than to be in the relaxing company of people you’re fond of in a simple and fuss-free manner.

So regardless of what happened or didn’t happened on my birthday, I’m grateful for all the love and blessings that I’d received. I’d been so fortunate. And if there’s anything I could wish for is for the 25 year old inside the 52 guy who stares back at him in the mirror to be able to see and realise the timeless essence of his soul that we all are. On my birthday today, I wish you love and peace. Be well.
