Double Happiness

I’m fascinated by identical twins and so when 15 year olds Ping and Ting visited us yesterday on the first day of the Chinese New Year with their cousins for the first time, I took advantage of this ‘auspicious’ photo opportunity of ‘double happiness’ for this Lunar Year of the Rat.

*Note: BTW Ping is on my left and Ting on my right. Can you tell them apart?

Chinese New Year Surprise

by FH2o on February 7, 2008

Not expecting to see snow and ice here right?

It’s an early Thursday Chinese New Year morning and everyone’s asleep but I awoke as I normally do with the break of light. I love the quietness and stillness of the morning which I observe on the river as I sit on my sofa of my living room slowly sipping hot freshly brewed coffee and listening to the chirpings of the birds outside. I love these peaceful meditations.

I hardly read the newspapers nor watch TV and I’m not missing anything preferring magazines and news services I subscribed to on the net. I checked my email and was pleasantly surprised to receive an email from Liza and Lars who lived in Kg Semadang but are currently in Oslo, Norway. This is part of what they wrote - “We got in contact with Marissa, a girl from west malaysia who got our mail add. from you. Also saw your blogg ………………cool. We’re sending a few pictures and Marissa is the girl to the left in the pic with 4 asian girls. As you can see, it’s freezing cold here, but we love skiing in the forrest.”

About one month ago, Marissa wrote to me after stumbling on my blog looking to get in touch with her old friends Liza and Lars whom she has lost contact. Marissa who’s from KL but now living in Norway saw the photos I took of Lars and was certain that it looked like him. Anyway they managed to contact each other and I’m glad that through my blog they managed to get in touch again in the true tradition of reunion that is the spirit of the Chinese New Year. And talking about surprises - I bet Marissa, Liza and Lars would be surprise with this post!

Done For January

by FH2o on January 30, 2008

I wished this post could be titled “Joyful January” but I’m really done for January and really looking forward to a fabulous February with Chinese New Year on next Thursday, 7th February 2008. Fabulous as in having the entire week off only having to go back to work (dirty word) on Wednesday, 13th February 2008! Yeah!

It’s the Year of the Rat in this Chinese lunar year but unfortunately there are still plenty of ‘pigs’ around and there was another encounter with one the other morning who thinks his father or grandfather owns the road. *sigh*

Sometimes it can be hard to control the urge to scratch or throw a rock … *sigh*

On a much more pleasant note, I am almost done with the kayaking trips posts for January uploaded to our revamped www.kuchingkayak.com and you can check out them all out in the January 2008 Archive. I am glad that I’d revamped the site as it is now so much easier to update and we can now easily post the photos for our guests to download at their leisure there. They don’t have to come and search every corner here leafing through my lame posts and rantings …

Anyway I trust that your January was much better and here’s wishing you a fabulous February and may the only pigs you encounter are the roasted or BBQ kind!

Happy Boxing Day

by FH2o on December 26, 2007

Christmas evening @ Sungai Kuap, Kuching

It was a lethargic (and rainy) Boxing Day back at work today but I’ll be taking leave from tomorrow onwards with 6 blissful days off in a row. Nice. I’d been busy over the past week and as is always the case with me - too many things and not enough time (and kind of lazy) to blog about it! I’m also feeling kinda lethargic from too much eating (and drinking!).

Christmas morning green @ my house

Anyway here’s 2 photos I took on Christmas morning and one in the evening when I went cycling in a probably fruitless attempt to reduce that bulging waistline. *sigh* Irregardless - happy holidays cheers from Kuching!
