Squirrel for Lunch

Hungry Squirrel eating bananas

Lunchtime for a squirrel. 26 August 2008

One of the advantages of living in a small city like Kuching is that one can have the luxury of going home for lunch and a nap and making it back to the office in good time afterwards! I could never do that when I was working in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. An hour and half lunch break is most sensible.

Anyway I have the added bonus of having a squirrel for lunch today as well, when one came down from the mangrove trees onto the table at our timber deck where I have left some bananas for the on the weekend for them. And thanks to 6 x optical zoom (210mm) of my Canon G9, I managed to capture some snaps of this really cute squirrel from my dining area, which really is ‘chicken soup’ for the soul and most nourishing. Burp.

Magical Lights on the Waters

by FH2o on July 16, 2008

This is a short video clip that I took of the magical lights of the shimmering reflection of the water of Sungai Sarawak Kiri @ Borneo Highlands, Kuching on the face of a huge rock outcrop near the ending point of our kayaking trip. I like the rest of the group was so mesmerised by this magical spectacle that I nearly forgot to take this video. I’m sure you’ll agree that its magic!

The youtube link is here.

Brilliant Kayaking Sunday

by FH2o on July 7, 2008

Kayaking Kuching Borneo Malaysia

Alexandra (and dad Greig) having one of the most brilliant Sundays on the rainforest river of Sarawak. 6 July 2008

You must have read this a dozen times already on this blog about me having a brilliant Sunday kayaking on the waters of Borneo Highlands but I’m going to repeat myself again here - I had a brilliant Sunday kayaking down Sungai Sarawak Kiri with my friend Choo Hock and his wife Annie and their children Jasper, Dennise and Kelly. Choo Hock’s sister and children on holidays from KL also joined in the fun.

Rainforest kayaking in Kuching

On one of our many stops - everybody wants the magical moments to linger on. 6 July 2008.

Also joining us were lone traveller Jodrg Weinhold from Germany and Australians Greig Blucher and daughter Alexandra Blucher who was literary gushing about it being “one of the most beautiful days of her life” in our guest book. Take a look at these photos and you’ll be gushing too. If this is not brilliant; I don’t know what else is! And definitely way more brilliant than your day job that’s for sure! Well, for me anyway. *wink*

Sunset @ KLIA

by FH2o on June 14, 2008

Sunset @ KLIA

Yesterday evening I was on standby at KLIA to take the earlier 20.50 instead of the 22.15 flight so that I can get into Kuching an hour before midnight (otherwise my other half would not be picking me up!); when I spotted the setting sun from the check-in counter queue. Not wanting to lose my line, I picked the best framing I could from where I was and took a few snaps, and I’m quite pleased with the result.

Magical moments are with us constantly. We just need to know how to tune in to it - by being fully present in the moment; wherever and whenever we are.

Here’s wishing that you are fully present this weekend wherever you are in whatever that you are doing. Don’t miss life - be present.

Sunrise for Breakfast @ Denarau Island, Nadi, Fiji

by FH2o on June 7, 2008

Denarau Island Sunrise, Nadi, Fiji

I had to leave the hotel early in order to avoid the long queues at Nadi International Airport and reluctantly had to forsake the wonderful buffet breakfast spread at Radisson Resort Fiji Denarau Island on Sunday, 1st June 2008.

However the lovely break of sunrise at Denarau Island more than make up for what I missed at breakfast on the 20 minutes drive to the airport. Have your fill now.
