Cynthia Chan and gang went kayaking with us on the 20th April 2008. The rest of ‘the gang’ comprise Peiling, Ju, Calvin and Johnny. Also joining them was Adeline Teng from Asian Overland Services Tour & Travel and her son Jason with Azmi and Max guiding the group.

Although Cynthia, Peiling and Ju all shared their kayaking experience in their blogs; Ju’s post is easily the most comprehensive and with the most number of photographs that we’ve come across! Go check them all up and after reading about the wonderful time they had kayaking @ Borneo Highlands, I’m pretty sure you would want to go kayaking soon! Thanks Cynthia, Peiling and Ju for sharing your wonderful experiences with us.

Lee Ali powers past me when I paused to take it all in. Lake Toba, 21st March 2008
Although I love to indulge in sleeping in once in a while, I love mornings. And I’m fortunate in that often times I sleep well (like a pig actually!) and I get up refreshed particularly if I’d had a hard day like when we did on our kayaking expedition at Lake Toba, North Sumatra.

Magic light breaks over Lake Toba - how it feels to be alive. 21st March 2008
On the first day of kayaking we were on the water for about 15 hours and by the time (and after we had paddled through a storm in pitch darkness) we were able to reach shore to find suitable accommodation for the night it was close to midnight! And on the second and third day, again we were forced to paddle well past after sunset!

However we were blessed with good weather and light and I managed to capture some quite stunning (well I think so anyway!) morning shots on our first day of kayaking and so here are they. Enjoy them and enjoy the rest of the working week.

Magical moment - Fijian sunset from a boat, 19th February 2008.
It’s nearly a week since I left Fiji but I don’t think I can ever shake off the images and feelings that linger on in my mind. With over 300 islands set in crystal clear waters with palm fringed white sandy beaches, lagoons and coral reefs, it fits my description of a south sea paradise. I kept imagining kayaking between the islands and sleeping on the beaches at night staring into the starry skies with a cool gentle breeze blowing …

Not expecting to see snow and ice here right?
It’s an early Thursday Chinese New Year morning and everyone’s asleep but I awoke as I normally do with the break of light. I love the quietness and stillness of the morning which I observe on the river as I sit on my sofa of my living room slowly sipping hot freshly brewed coffee and listening to the chirpings of the birds outside. I love these peaceful meditations.

I hardly read the newspapers nor watch TV and I’m not missing anything preferring magazines and news services I subscribed to on the net. I checked my email and was pleasantly surprised to receive an email from Liza and Lars who lived in Kg Semadang but are currently in Oslo, Norway. This is part of what they wrote - “We got in contact with Marissa, a girl from west malaysia who got our mail add. from you. Also saw your blogg ………………cool. We’re sending a few pictures and Marissa is the girl to the left in the pic with 4 asian girls. As you can see, it’s freezing cold here, but we love skiing in the forrest.”

About one month ago, Marissa wrote to me after stumbling on my blog looking to get in touch with her old friends Liza and Lars whom she has lost contact. Marissa who’s from KL but now living in Norway saw the photos I took of Lars and was certain that it looked like him. Anyway they managed to contact each other and I’m glad that through my blog they managed to get in touch again in the true tradition of reunion that is the spirit of the Chinese New Year. And talking about surprises - I bet Marissa, Liza and Lars would be surprise with this post!

People who worked with me (and doesn’t know that I love photography, nature and that I blog) and are amused at me taking pictures of the skies have obviously not seen these (nor appreciate fully my artistic and creative talents; ahem) which I snapped on the way home from work yesterday evening. Their loss not mine.
Have a great weekend but spare a thought for the stewpig pathetic lot who have to work through it to prepare for a meeting next week. *sigh*
