The teddy bear handphone would certainly qualify as super ‘deliciously tacky‘ in SKim’s book. This concept phone from Willcom is called a ‘Kuma Bear’ phone as it is a stuffed bear that holds a SIM card and can actually be used for making and receiving phone calls by holding it up to your ears. Yes - this gimmicky nonsense is from Japan. I came across this here and the stolen photo is from there too.
Trusting that your weekend is delicious and not stuffy. Whatever.

A sentry truck somewhere on a desolate landfill site in Miri, Sarawak. 21st August 2008
Old trucks never die. They either end up as scrap metal, or if they’re in the middle of nowhere on some desolate land fill site in Miri; they end up as an awkward but otherwise useful guardhouse. And makes for an interesting photography subject on an otherwise hot (and boring) Thursday afternoon site visit on an uninspiring and sparse landscape.

Keep on trukin’ in Miri, yeah! 21st August 2008.

Another sun halo over Kuching sky. 28th July 2008.
At first it was a phenomenon that was hardly ever seen in Kuching in living memory and then it happened again a couple of months later. That was last year and this year again it was spotted again a couple of times which I didn’t bother to take a photo of as it was kinda unpleasantly glaring to be staring into the bright sky. Shooting directly into the sun cannot be good for one’s eyes or the CCD of one’s digital camera.

Sun halo captured from the jetty at my house. The trees make for an interesting foreground.
Anyway on the way home for lunch (and a nap!) I received a couple of sms to “look at the sky/sun” and another one after I had my lunch. So instead of heading for my sofa for a snooze; I headed outside to take a couple of snaps of the sun halo - if it’s still there; and it was. It lingered on unlike the other two previous occasions. So this is what I sacrified my lunch nap for. I hope you think it’s worth it and I hope there’s no more sun halo at lunch time tomorrow, please! I love my naps but I just can’t resist beautiful women skies.

At times like this, I really wished I have a DSLR as this would make for a nice large photograph. *Sigh*

A colleague emailed me this story which I think is quite apt following my post on “Dubai Waterfront”; and which is a clear indictment of the insanity of man’s greed and excesses.
You can read the full story – “Mall of Misfortune” from “The Nation” here.
With 7 million square feet (that’s nearly TWICE the size of Mid Valley MegaMall, the largest shopping mall in Malaysia) of floor space, it is the largest retail and entertainment development in the world – and it is empty! Developed by Hu Guirong, an instant-noodle billionaire in China after his team had spent two years traveling the world – France, Italy, Nevada – in search of ideas (but not their heads) and by the end of which was designed by design consultants, Ian Thomas of the Thomas Consulting Group in Vancouver. Suddenly super-rich egomaniac chinaman cowboy developer meets slick talking foreign conman consultants and this is the result. Change the race and it sounds like a familiar Asian story with a similar sad ending story. *sigh*

Here are more photos taken from the news story on this “Mall of Madness”! And captions are, I think, unnecessary. What a waste and how insane - just like what is happening at my work place! *sigh*

People’s mind are getting more twisted and distorted by the day. Here’s proof. 10th June 2008
Some people claim that “big is better” but this is ridiculous!
I spotted this car in the parking lot this morning. Really, how could anyone have missed that humongous rear bumper! I don’t have my camera with me so I snapped it with my cheap Nokia 2630 camera phone (hence the deplorable quality by FH2o’s standards). Secret compartment for fuel or goods smuggling? Airbags bumper? Any idea anyone?
Whatever the reason(s) for or purpose of the oversized bumper is any body’s guess; but it is mind boggling. And fodder for the Tuesday’s bored.
