Obscurations & Obfuscations: Of Bad Writing & Poor Thinking

Water reflection abstract photo

Abstract photo of water relectionAt first it was upsetting with the abrupt withdrawal of certain privileges to those not of a certain position but the all important memo directing this could not be opened. Some people would have gotten the sack or promptly demoted for such laxity in the handling of as sensitive and important matter as this.

Anyway after this was pointed out, a viewable memo was re-sent the following day and the obfuscations in it with words such as “data cleaning” and spelling errors confusing “corporation” for “cooperation” is not only embarrassing but perhaps a clear reflection and indictment of mismanagement murkiness.

Enjoy these abstract close ups reflections snaps of Sungai Stutong, Kuching with no obscurations or obfuscations whatsoever. Whatever.

Infected, Affected & Disinfected

by admin on August 5, 2008

HeliconiaThe above is the lazy blogger’s way to summarize some of the events of the past couple of days. And on the left is a lovely heliconia bloom in our garden.

No thanks to illegal downloads from Rapidshare, my notebook was infected by the free-viruscan.com virus which is a browser hijacker that disguises as a legitimate Windows warning message and redirects user to website that will then prompt you to download protection software. It’s a scamware virus that wants to you to pay for a full license of the application in order to remove the ‘errors’; but damn annoying as hell. If your notebook is similarly infected, fear not - go to Malwarbytes’ Anti-Malware and download the program to scan and rid yourself of this virus.

Swedes kayaking in Kuching

Happily affected kayaking people.

Anyway over the weekend I took a Danish family of 6 for dolphins spotting in which we spotted none! I was expecting disappointment but much to our surprise we were generously tipped instead! I also took a group of people out kayaking at Borneo highlands comprising 7 Swedes and 4 Polish. Again this group was similarly affected by the magical experience of kayaking in the wonderful tropics and minded not the least when the van’s air conditioning broke down on the trip back!

Pedicure by Gina in Kuching

What a treat for my battered feet - a pedicure by Gina. 4th August 2008

And yesterday on a lark I decided to treat my battered feet to a treat - for a pedicure with Gina, after work. Luckily she was able to oblige my 5.30pm appointment and you need to make an appointment 012-8048338 as her services are quite popular. It was a treat alright as Gina was trained in New York (she came back about a year ago - dunno why!) and is probably the only qualified manicurist/pedicurist in town. This was my first pedicure and after the tender, luxurious and expert treatment from Gina, it would certainly not be my last. Business has picked up purely from word of mouth and she would be moving to a new (and much less noisy!) premise in Petanak (“Manicure by Gina” I think) instead of at Eastmoore come 1st of September. She also does nail art, artificial nails, waxing & hair removal, hands and feet treatment, etc. Make an appointment with Gina - your nails will be very grateful to you (!), Mine are.

Yellow

Yellow Tractor Wheel

It’s kind of expected from this despicable person but still upsetting to find out how low this snaky person would stoop to back-stab you at a meeting when you’re not in attendance.

I suppose it’s the only thing he could do since he does not have the balls much less the brains to directly confront me with any issues pertaining to the matters at hand lest it revealed even more about his lack of competence, qualifications/knowledge and experience. With this sort of person leading the team, it’s an inevitable disaster in the making. It’s just a matter of “when”. *sigh*

Solace in Trees

by FH2o on July 29, 2008

Red Trees @ Jalan Bukitan, Kuching

Red Tree @ Jalan Bukitan. Canon G9 Shutter speed 1/30 @ F3.5 ISO 100

I usually have a positive outlook in whatever happens at work(and lately lots of upsetting things had been happening) but I felt more than a tinge of disappointment to learn that one of our projects in which I had a major design input and had put my heart and soul in; would in most likelihood not go through. This is not the first time but it still hurts, every time.

It was a most beautiful wooded site on undulating grounds and the proposal was for guarded and gated community of sensitively designed townhouses that would sit gently on and hug the existing contours disturbing the terrains and the existing mature trees as little as possible. It had been more than 14 months in the dreaming.

With thoughts of this project weighing heavy on my mind the entire day, I impulsively made a detour on the way home from work to seek comfort and dream in my mind’s eyes on what could have been. I pulled my car on the empty path and as the low remaining light of the day broke through in certain places illuminating the trees in their luxurious warmth and colours, my spirits was lifted as I fumbled with the manual exposure on my newly acquired and unfamiliar Canon G9, managing to capture a few shots before the lights faded completely away. Take a look, trees don’t lie.

Sun Halo for Lunch

by FH2o on July 28, 2008

sun halo in Kuching July 2008

Another sun halo over Kuching sky. 28th July 2008.

At first it was a phenomenon that was hardly ever seen in Kuching in living memory and then it happened again a couple of months later. That was last year and this year again it was spotted again a couple of times which I didn’t bother to take a photo of as it was kinda unpleasantly glaring to be staring into the bright sky. Shooting directly into the sun cannot be good for one’s eyes or the CCD of one’s digital camera.

Sun halo seen amongst trees

Sun halo captured from the jetty at my house. The trees make for an interesting foreground.

Anyway on the way home for lunch (and a nap!) I received a couple of sms to “look at the sky/sun” and another one after I had my lunch. So instead of heading for my sofa for a snooze; I headed outside to take a couple of snaps of the sun halo - if it’s still there; and it was. It lingered on unlike the other two previous occasions. So this is what I sacrified my lunch nap for. I hope you think it’s worth it and I hope there’s no more sun halo at lunch time tomorrow, please! I love my naps but I just can’t resist beautiful women skies.

Sun halo ice bow in the sky

At times like this, I really wished I have a DSLR as this would make for a nice large photograph. *Sigh*
